Football roundup: Cass Tech’s technique superior, 42-6 http://worldhotnews.net/football-roundup-cass-techs-technique-superior-42-6.html http://worldhotnews.net/football-roundup-cass-techs-technique-superior-42-6.html#comments Sat, 04 Sep 2010 16:00:21 +0000 admin http://worldhotnews.net/football-roundup-cass-techs-technique-superior-42-6.html

The first offensive plays from scrimmage for Detroit Central and Cass Tech were an indication of things to come in the PSL game of the week played Friday night at Detroit Renaissance.

Cass Tech ran off a 39-yard gain over right end by Christian Burks — and six plays later scored on a 1-yard quarterback sneak by Keith Moore. Conversely, Central fumbled on its first play, a run up the middle, and the ball was recovered by Cass Tech’s Laron Taylor. the Technicians took that gift at the Central 19-yard line and scored three plays later on a 1-yard run by Burks — giving Cass Tech a quick 14-0 lead with 7:32 left in the first quarter.

The game played out in dominating victory for Cass Tech, 42-6. Moore scored four times.

FOOTBALL SCORES

“I felt after the first series we could have the game under control,” said coach Thomas Wilcher. “I felt that the fumble was something that was supposed to happen, to get things going our way.”

Moore scored two more touchdowns before halftime — on a 39-yard run that followed another fumble recovery by Taylor on the previous play, a Cass Tech punt that was dropped. Later Moore scored after he dropped the snap on a pass play but picked it up to run 4 yards for six more points.

Central (1-1) found some fight on the opening play of the third quarter. Dario Stovall took the handoff and bolted through the line for a 52-yard gain to the Cass Tech 28. seven plays later, Central scored on a quarterback dive into the end zone by DeVonte Brown, making it 28-6.

But any celebrations were short-lived, as Cass Tech (2-0) scored quickly on Moore’s final touchdown, a 46-yard draw play.

“I liked the last one the most,” Moore said of his TDs, “just because I put a couple moves in there. They blitzed us quite a lot. That made things difficult, but they went one-on-one with some of our really fast guys,” which opened up opportunities.

Cass Tech’s final TD, which triggered a running clock, came on a botched snap on a Central punt attempt. the ball sailed to the 10-yard line, was pushed back in a scramble and pounced on by Brandon Perry for the score.

Hey, was I being an idiot douchbag in the following situation…details…? http://worldhotnews.net/hey-was-i-being-an-idiot-douchbag-in-the-following-situation-details.html http://worldhotnews.net/hey-was-i-being-an-idiot-douchbag-in-the-following-situation-details.html#comments Sat, 04 Sep 2010 14:27:15 +0000 admin http://worldhotnews.net/hey-was-i-being-an-idiot-douchbag-in-the-following-situation-details.html

Today, I saw this job posting on Craiglist about a paid internship in web developing that can even work around your classes if you're a student. I'm currently a student continuing my education. according to the ad, I had most of the required skills listed but not all of them. it said respond by email with resume and with links of your work, in you have any. So, I responded attaching my design version of my resume and writing this brief note. I censored out some of the information for privacy reasons:

"hello, I'm responding to your recent post on Craigslist regarding a paid internship. I am interested in gaining more hands on experience in web developing and design. I'm currently learning CSS, HTML, and some Javascript. I'm also enrolled part time at ******** ******. I attached my resumé. Thanks."

A few hours later, I checked my email, and someone from the HR department of this company responded back very quickly with this message:

"Thanks for submitting your resume to ******. Do you have any links to your web design work that can be sent? this would be an on site position. The reason I mention this is because ******* would be quite a commute."

After getting this response, my first thought was "oh sh*t!" cause I only had one link, and the website is still under construction. I'm just now getting into the web developing part of graphic design. I could not leave this person hanging with no samples. I had to be honest; so here's how I responded to that email:
"I have a link to the following site ******* *******. I designed the banner and the buttons. I'm actually in the middle of working on it, so I will link you to what I have on there so far…

www.******-********.biz/home.html

That's the only link I have, so my other samples are in attachment form to this email if that's all right. Thanks."

By far, that was like the crappiest response I ever sent to a potential employer!!! Man, I really f**k'd up! I refuse to give out the real link above because the website looks like a piece of sh*t since my friend and I aren't finished with it yet. I hope I'm not going to hell for how I handled the email. I didn't know what to do, I didn't want to risk underselling myself by responding with no samples at all.

After being a total douchbag, a complete idiot, for sending in something that's not finished, I hope I never hear back from this company again. Hopefully my reputation as an aspiring web designer won't get ruined because of this stupid douchbag of a stunt I did. I'm just someone who is still young and does their best to get themselves out there.
I hope this won't come back and haunt me?

It is not going to come back and haunt you but just get your **** together and finish the website or don't reply to jobs that want links. Keep in mind that some jobs are just not meant to work out.

While I think you should have had the page done before you responded I don't think it was that bad, if I was you I would get my *** in gear and finish the page ASAP and then reply back to them.

u should've been honest, its still not too late, just tell him of your potential and heshould understand.

I think the only thing that could hurt is the dishonesty otherwise your response sounded okay to me…but being honest especially about websites and whats yours and not is the best way to go, just explain that you don't have it finished and show them what you do have you never know what they may like or not like….

it's ok… you can still do some damage control. you can send a follow up email telling them that you're currently sharpening your skills and that you want to be a successful web designer. tell them that you "want to contribute to your company." and that your "experience with them, if they do hire you for projects, will not be put to waste."…

if you have designs in your file that you have not uploaded on the web yet, you can just do screen shots and email the jpeg files of those designs to the employer. it's not a link but those qualify as samples of your work.

pray to God and ask for His forgiveness as His judgement is all that matters

Hey, was I being an idiot douchbag in the following situation…details…?

I was thinking about Zanies, but the comedian coming (Robert Schimmel) is unknown to me and when I watched him on Youtube, he didn't seem that funny. I was also thinking about miss Marples Dinner Theatre, but he might find it a bit corny. He's a guy's guy… not a dancer…he's a smarta**, but shy… and I want to do something fun. Where can I take him for his 22nd birthday?

How about taking him out to a nice steakhouse, then out for cocktails afterwards?
Your company should be entertainment enough.

Strip club..buy him a few dances..that would be the best birthday ever

Bring him to an arcade.

Make the food the entertainment. if you have a "Melting Pot" fondue restaurant near you that could be fun or go to a Japanese hibachi steakhouse where the chef makes the food right in front of you with lots of juggling and bursts of flame.

Where can I take my boyfriend for his birthday (someplace entertaining… possibly with food)?

comedian Robert Schimmel has been admitted to a hospital as he faces serious injuries after a car accident. He was travelling with his son and daughter in Arizona when the fatal accident occurred. Media reports have confirmed that at the time of accident, Schimmel’s 19 year old daughter was driving. she saw an accident in the lane in which she was driving and hence she was trying to avoid that spot and this made her car roll over to the side of the freeway.

Schimmel has been very unfortunate with health circumstances way back to 1998 when he had a severe heart attack. In the year 2000, he announced that he was suffering from non Hogkin lymphoma. During the beginning of the current year, he said that he is suffering from cirrhosis due to Hepatitis C infection that caused from a blood transfusion. and this time, it is a fatal car accident that has really made his condition critical.

I mean you have to type really quickly or the ghosts will eat you! =O

Cool idea though ^^

i m enjoying google with pacman game :D

lol it was yesterday but today not so the game doesn't star unless you hit insert coin or use your arrow keys.

You can play two players if you insert two coins.

It's a flash game, it doesn't start until you hit "insert coin," and it, like all Google banners, does not affect searching.

If it really adds "stress" to your day set up an iGoogle account or use Yahoo.

Yeah it's a bit more stressful, but entertaining too. :)

Does anyone else find using Google to be much more stressful with the Pacman game?

Against Life with Anagram and Young Mother http://worldhotnews.net/against-life-with-anagram-and-young-mother.html http://worldhotnews.net/against-life-with-anagram-and-young-mother.html#comments Sat, 04 Sep 2010 10:00:18 +0000 admin http://worldhotnews.net/against-life-with-anagram-and-young-mother.html I had a full day of playing bocce ball, drinking, and dancing to beach tunes by a fire on Hanlan’s Beach this Saturday past. Late in the evening, as the dusk and chill was descending upon us, we got the word that there was an Against Life party happening somewhere in Liberty Village around midnight. Against Life is the new grant-funded art/music thing that replaces the late and great Extermination Music Nights that Toronto came to love too much. we were two broken bikes and a burrito stop away from what it really means to experience summer in the city.

After traipsing around underneath a DVP overpass, the group that I was perched atop a gravel ledge with heard the hypnotic and cascading sounds of Young Mother.

a friendly argument broke out over weather the band sounded more like Brides or Actual Water… and the answer is a little of both. a very Toronto sounding band (read saxaphones), they have members of both playing their part to the better whole that is Young Mother. Frontman Jesse sounds like the personification of a demon from Dante’s Divine Comedy.

A couple hundred people made it out to the not-as-hidden-as-in-the-past location, and the scene was one of excess: bottles of whiskey and wine being passed around, friends running into friends while avoiding being run into by some overt party lover. Say what you will about this being a city of 20 somethings who all look alike, it all makes sense when you’re packed neck and neck with your peers and there are: a) fantastic visuals being projected onto the concrete support walls, b) mood altering space freakout jams permeating every orifice and c) some of the best live music Toronto has to offer.

Anagram — you either love them or hate them. And I know many more who love than hate… some say the removal of their sax player a couple years ago ruined the dynamic of the band. I say that whenever you have Matt Mason violently performing it’s going to be pretty dynamic no matter what. I’m unsure of how exactly guitarist (and twin brother to Matt) Willy actually plays his instrument; it kind of seems like he’s trying to destroy his hand and all the tendons in his arms.

they have a new song (actually a new album was recorded ages ago but it remains unreleased) that just destroyed my will to act like a normal human being (though I was for all intents and purposes lost to the world by this point). It has the chug-a-lugging drone of some of their older songs, like Manic Indulgence or what a Mess, and a lot of that is created by Jeff Peers’ doom-esque bass playing.

Anagram managed to survive the fire department being called to the scene, with the only stipulation being that the torches that were lighting the scene be put out. And then we were allowed to continue. It was a magical moment that cemented the love of the cause in everyone.

Then the cops came, and just as police will always do when they’re bored and jealous (to be fair, this may be my overactive imagination), they shut down a peaceful and relatively calm gathering of responsible (enough) adults and made us all disband. At least it wasn’t shut down as quickly as what could have been the most amazing Extermination Night at the old Kodak Theatre.

So there you go, you want to know how to spend your summer, that’s it right there. I realize that writing a review about this may potentially bring a lot more people out to an Against Life event, which may or may not bring more heat down on it. But you know what? I would love for more people to get behind it and support it, because it’s one of the best things Toronto has to offer. It’s a lasting memory and impression of where we are at right now with our creative outlets.

On his way to victory at Louis Armstrong Stadium yesterday, the highest-seeded American man left in the U.S. Open, No. 18 John Isner, could hear the wild cheering and chanting going on at the adjacent Grandstand in support of another American man, Ryan Harrison, a qualifier who was the lowest-ranked (220) and youngest (18) player still in the tournament.

Isner, striving to be known for more than winning the longest tennis match in history, reached the third round by beating Marco Chiudinelli of Switzerland, 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (7), 6-4.

Harrison, striving to show he belongs at this level, came as close as possible to winning without doing so, wasting three match points in the fifth-set tiebreaker and losing, 6-3, 5-7, 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 (6), to Sergiy Stakhovsky of Ukraine.

"I'm trying to hopefully get to the top 10, so I feel like one match doesn't make or break that," Harrison said, doing his best to look on the bright side. "It's the experience of playing these type of matches that is really going to help me to get there."

This was the second Grand Slam tournament of Harrison's nascent career, and the first at which he won a match – and what a victory it was, an upset over 15th-seeded Ivan Ljubicic.

For Isner, this is the first major tournament he's played since Wimbledon in June, when he hit a record 113 aces during an 11-hour-plus, 183-game, first-round marathon spread over three days. he beat Nicolas Mahut in a 70-68 fifth set, and while appreciative of the significance of that match, Isner is quite ready to move on.

"I don't want that to be, like, the lasting image of my career," the 6-foot-9 Isner said after finishing with 24 aces against the 63rd-ranked Chiudinelli. "So that's up to me to make it not that way. It's up to me to do well in big tournaments, tournaments such as this."

He can match his best Grand Slam showing if he beats No. 12 Mikhail Youzhny to make it to the fourth round.

Isner, who won an NCAA championship at the University of Georgia, was joined in the third round by No. 20 Sam Querrey, a 6-2, 6-3, 6-4 winner yesterday against Marcel Granollers of Spain. Of 15 U.S. men originally in the draw, four are left: Isner, Querrey, No. 19 Mardy Fish and wild card James Blake. Fish and Blake play third-round matches today.

"hopefully it'll continue on, and hopefully, James and Mardy and other Americans will keep moving forward, too," said Querrey, who now faces No. 4 Andy Murray, the 2008 runner-up in New York.

Murray beat Jamaica's Dustin Brown, 7-5, 6-3, 6-0, and other seeded winners included No. 8 Fernando Verdasco, No. 10 David Ferrer, No. 23 Feliciano Lopez and No. 31 David Nalbandian. the only seeded man to exit yesterday was No. 29 Philipp Kohlschreiber, who lost, 4-6, 6-3, 1-6, 6-1, 6-3, to former top-10 player Gilles Simon.

Top-seeded Rafael Nadal played last night, after 2000-01 champion Venus Williams easily got past 185th-ranked qualifier Mandy Minella of Luxembourg, 6-2, 6-1.

"I had no idea what my opponent played like," Williams said afterward, but apparently it didn't matter, and she accumulated a 29-5 advantage in winners while her injured sister Serena watched from the stands.

Next for the older Williams is No. 16 Shahar Peer, who beat No. 19 Flavia Pennetta, 6-4, 6-4.

There were no upsets in women's third-round play, other than, perhaps, the fact that Kim Clijsters lost the first three games of her match before coming back to defeat No. 27 Petra Kvitova 6-3, 6-0.

French Open champion Francesca Schiavone, French Open runner-up Sam Stosur, two-time major finalist Elena Dementieva, and former No. 1 Ana Ivanovic all won, all in straight sets. the highlight, without a doubt, was Schiavone's back-to-the-net, between-the-legs shot in her 6-1, 7-5 victory over No. 29 Alona Bondarenko – nearly identical to what Roger Federer has done each of the past two years at the U.S. Open. In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, police in New Orleans confiscated thousands of guns from residents in an effort to keep guns out of the hands of anyone who wasn’t law enforcement.

Louisiana residents feel that their constitutional rights were violated and proceeded to sue the city of New Orleans with the help of the National Rifle Association. Richard Styron and his friend Wayne Schum were crossing Lake Ponchartrain about a week after Hurricane Katrina made landfall. “I had almost six inches of water to a foot in my house, but it was still there,” Styron said. after getting Styron’s weapons and valuables from his house, the pair proceeded to cross back across the lake. “We had heard about all the stuff that was going on in New Orleans, all the shootings and the people that were getting hurt, some killed from what I was told,” Styron said. Law enforcement ended up stopping their boat and taking their weapons. Read more

"We weren’t criminals. We were law-abiding people. We were trying to take our personal stuff home and protect it, and now it was being taken away from us anyway,” Styron said. in the days following Katrina, New Orleans was in complete chaos. Law enforcement couldn’t handle all the problems and many buildings throughout the city were looted. “there were vans with thugs in them. They were breaking into any businesses where there was no sign of anyone around in them. They didn’t mess with us in here because I stood out front with my shotgun,” said Joann Guidos, owner of Kajun’s Pub. Guidos stayed in her pub for about a week after Katrina, protecting her business and her patrons from looters outside. When she finally decided to evacuate, law enforcement stopped her and took all her guns. Gordon Hutchinson, author of “the Great New Orleans Gun Grab,” says it was a constitutional nightmare. “the armed populace keeps the government in check. the government should not be in charge of the populous. the populace should run the government, and whenever the government has the guns and the populace doesn’t have the guns, the government does what it wants,” he said. by telling their stories of gun confiscation, the residents of New Orleans are trying to make sure the rights of others aren’t violated. Radio host Alex Jones argued that the through history slaves are disarmed, and now the US is disarming its people. Jones explained that the military and other police forces raided multiple neighborhoods, steeling guns from homes, many of which have never been returned.

“What’s scary here is first time the federal government was able to take control of a US city during an emergency; they wouldn’t bring food and water to people at the Super Dome, in fact they blockade in many cases. Their main mission was set the precedent to get the American people’s guns. This is just horrifying,” said Jones.

The anti-Second Amendment efforts of the US government, argued Jones, have actually continued to grow over the last five years since Katrina.

“More guns means less crime,” argued Jones. “look at Mexico. Mexico has a complete gun ban for citizens being armed. They have the highest crime rate in the world because criminal gangs and the corrupt government have the monopoly of force and they’re just feeding on the population en mass.”

Jones explained that the people are given a right to own guns under the second Amendment of the US Constitution.

“the second Amendment is to protect us from looking criminal government,” said Jones.

The US government, through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), was using the Katrina disaster as a drill, forcing the crisis to get worse in order to test a federal takeover of a US city, he argued.

Jones argued that the second Amendment must be defended as a deterrent to totalitarianism and the continuation of a police-state in the US, where the government controls and dominates every aspect of American life.

“We are becoming 1984,” said Jones
